1. Read the map
Use the birth and death markers to think about where the person lived and which historical setting connects the two locations.
Map challenge
Identify the historical person from two years and the locations where their life began and ended. Choose a collection below. New regional and thematic collections can be added over time.
How the clues work
Each round shows the year and location of a person's birth and death. The map is the main clue: sometimes the two places are close together, while other lives stretch across countries or continents. You identify the person from those combined signals.
Use the birth and death markers to think about where the person lived and which historical setting connects the two locations.
The two years help narrow the period. If you need more help, an occupation hint can reveal what the person is known for.
An incorrect guess does not end the round. You can try another name or choose “I don’t know” and reveal the answer.
What it trains
The game is designed to reinforce the relationship between biography and geography. Birthplaces can suggest language, nationality or political context, while places of death often reveal migration, exile, travel or the international reach of a person's career.
You can leave place names hidden for a harder map-reading challenge or show them before guessing when you want to focus on historical knowledge rather than geography.
